Mindfulness Mania

Updated: Nov 13, 2021

Thailand - May 2018

Mindfulness mania is taking over every conversation, Instagram post, shirts, podcasts and even being prescribed for weight-loss, high blood pressure, anxiety, and the long list of incessantly arising mind related contemplations.

We seem to be living in an increasingly polarized world. I believe the remedy for this division is to cultivate and spread compassion for all living beings. There is a big drought of love and kindness these days because we tend to react to pain by inflicting more pain on ourselves and others. This is a vicious cycle that creates more negative karma and makes things worse for everyone. This is the process of  human revolution - Never stop growing and learning. Be open to expanding your heart and mind. Become bigger than any problem you encounter. Continually broadening your inner world is the key to happiness.

Human revolution is an inner transformation, a revolution of the heart. It’s the process of growth that happens when we work on expanding our best qualities in order to overcome obstacles or adversity. This does not happen in our comfort zone; the practice of self-improvement and contributing to the greater good is a lifelong path. The magic that comes from opening our heart and mind to life and finding a higher purpose is why we are here on this planet.

As I sit on my cushion on my balcony; deepening my breath, lengthening my spine, I learn to discard my preconceptions and expectations—all the many hopes and fears and attachments that have given shape to my life. I learn to lay aside anxiety about what I am missing, what I do not have, what might happen to me in here. I confront the fact that I am, in truth, uncertain about whether I really want to release my fears, my anger. I am conflicted. Without the armor of my anger and self-righteousness, I become intimate with the many forms of suffering in this prison world—and so I feel vulnerable, exposed.

Outer circumstances are always changing. Meditation helps us reinforce our ability to work with the present moment while giving us space to explore our minds, get familiar with qualities of balance, empathy, and happiness.  Each day presents a new confrontation with reality.

I want to run, but instead, I breathe…. One breath at a time.

This door to freedom, the key to liberation, is my choice. How I choose to respond at this moment is the pivotal moment to create my life.

In sitting, I flow with my old friend; my breath, and I am one with joy.  I know that through this practice I can arrive at a place of genuine peace.  By observing gently what is going on during this sitting, you will discover the dynamics of the pivot point to liberation. And as you infuse the memory with loving awareness the dynamics change.

Reactivity subsides as our awareness takes over and shows us how beautiful it is to live in the light.

Take some time to experience and enjoy the shift that awareness has brought you.

Spend time experiencing the shift that awareness brings.

This path to freedom my friends; is our choice to follow.
